EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is one of the most highly researched interventions for healing from disturbing life events. Some of these events can include past traumatic events, future events one has fear or phobia towards, or events in your life that have led to limiting self-beliefs.
Using eye movements or body taps, the body will be stimulated while you focus on an image of a distressing situation (exposure). With specific EMDR procedures, memories of past or future situations can be made less emotionally intense and distressing to the body and mind. These memories are reprocessed and stored in this “less charged” state in the mind so that they don’t feel so emotionally upsetting to you anymore. Over 30 controlled outcome studies have been done on EMDR and shown positive results. EMDR can be life-changing, but like any intervention, is not for everyone.
